Searching for a Toilet
12Jul06
I never would have thought that I could spend hours looking for toilets. I also never thought that I would spend more than $200 on a toilet either. Looks like I was wrong on both accounts. Since our bathroom vanity does not go straight to the ground, I didn’t want a toilet that did either. The thought of having a floor space that is totally open is very appealing to me both in cleaning and aesthetics. Unfortunately wall hung toilets are nothing close to affordable. I finally decided on the Coroma Walvit, for two main reasons. First the specs said it could be mounted inside a 2×4 wall, which was huge for me, and second it has a dual flush, so it saves on a lot of water. Price tag was a very painful $800 after all the little parts I needed. Ouch. The worst of it is that now that I am going to install it, I find the hardware to do it in a 2×4 wall isn’t available in the US, so I will have to add a little detail to accommodate an extra 2″.
The affordable runner up, which I maybe should have gotten was the Kohler Rialto, which can be had for closer to $250

Great blog.
one question: have you had any experience with faucetline.com? We are remodeling our condo and found their prices way below the best quotes we’ve gotten so far.
I’m surprised you didn’t get a Japanese toilet like the Toto Neorest to go along with the ofuro. The Neorest 500 features front and rear warm water washing, automatic air dryer and deodorizer and can be had at Standard Plumbing for a mere $2500.
BontempiFan, I don’t have any experience with faucetline.com. Anyone?
DavidM, Yeah, only a mere $2500. Those things do everything, I’d definitely want it with the toaster oven option.
nice site. i’m beginning a bathroom renovation as well….
and, like you, i wanted a nice wall hung toilet (being an architect doesn’t help) but, couldn’t justify spending the $800 - $1000 for a nice duravit model…..
however, i did find a nicelt designed two piece toilet form duravit…the starck series 3
$262 on the ira woods site -
Hi,
Your renovation looks great!
I am renovating three bathrooms and want to use wall hung toilets. But $800.00 a pop is a lot of money for me as an elementary music teacher!
Did you consider this toilet? It seems to be a bit cheaper, but perhaps I’m missing something…

Thanks!

Jack,
That looks like a good deal. The only thing I wonder is if it includes the tank, and carrier (mounting stuff). IF it does have everything you need, then that is great. Thanks for the link.
Not to bum you out, but you could have gotten a very cool stainless steel wall hung toilet for a lot less than $800, and it would have jived with the ofuro. You can often pick them up dirt cheap from counties or cities that are redoing thier jails, as there is one in every cell (but don’t ever tell your wife that or she’d never let you install one…lol)
